IN POLITCS, EGO IS EVIL
Walking up and down the staircases and through the corridors of MKU, it is very easy to meet willing interviewees who open up to the media and share their opinion as to what they think may cost a candidate their ambition of winning favour and the eventual vote from the MKU student fraternity. The question was short and precise, "What do you think may fail a candidate in the 2015 MKUSA elections?"
The answers were varied from shyness to lack of proper manifesto agendas, but the dominant trend that leaked out of every watchful person was the issue of pride and self-fulfillment among the aspirants. Majority of the people we interviewed confessed that they are utterly disappointed with the way contestants are running their errands around. Some have already adopted the notion that they are the definite winners in the upcoming elections and they profess that in their daily campaigns. Others started wearing their pride even before the vetting had taken place. Thankfully, all the hopefuls passed the vetting and moved on with campaigns and launching of their manifesto. But logically speaking, vetting is just an official process that earns you the administration's consent and not the victory in election.
The key factors that are considered during vetting include one's mental stability and presentablity. An athlete doesnt celebrate for passing a drug doping test but rather celebrates after winning the marathon. It is thus a pity to see candidates already proud just because their hooligans screamed the loudest during campaigns. If you are a keen observer of the national and international politics, these trends are common and they mostly belong to the losing teams. Instead of asking students to attend your launching in numbers, I'd rather you hand them a flyer and ask them to ensure they keep their student cards safely. You may buy them drinks and the same drinks may make them lose their cards in rowdy acts of goonism, and this will eventuate your failure in the polls.
Ego is good in the ordinary life but very impractical in political weathers. It demeans your public reputable and makes you more myopic to the adversaries' plots since you have already married an assumption that you are the bigwig in this game. Remember that politics is a game with no best coach, its a gamble of probabilities and whoever absorbs public opinion ends up being the don. This doesn't mean that one should not stick to his/her strategies, it simply means that we should consider creating smiles on the faces of the people we expect to vote us in rather that involving actions and utterances that may make them hate us. Ego is the greatest of traits that the electorate in any given society is allergic to.
Thinking that you are great is healthy for your motivation, but thinking that you are the best is harmful to your progress. Ego can make you evil and mean since the human brain has been convinced that you may not needhelp from others
